Ukrainian athletes, who at one time climbed the podiums of international competitions, now choose the first place on the front lines and are actively involved in volunteering. All in order to bring Ukraine's victory in the full-scale war unleashed by the Russian Federation as soon as possible. That is why the sports digital projects of the 1+1 media group continue to tell the stories of those who for a certain time had to forget about sports achievements and focus on resisting the Russian aggressor.

So, the FootballHub editors spoke with Oleg Verniaev, the Olympic champion in gymnastics . In a video interview, the athlete spoke about his military father, who knows about the war firsthand, the championships in the conditions of a full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, and emotional meetings with the people of Mariupol.

"Over the past few months, I have met a huge number of people from Mariupol. It is obvious that it is difficult for them psychologically. Thunderstorms and thunder already bring tears to their eyes, " said Oleg Vernyaev.  

In addition, the Olympic champion talked about why sports cannot be outside of politics and his main dream - to visit his native Ukrainian Donetsk after the Victory.

"The first thing I will do after the Victory is to immediately go to Donetsk, which I have not been to for more than 10 years ," Oleg emphasized.
