1+1 Media is working on a full-length movie about Christmas, which Ukrainians will watch in cinemas at the end of the year
1+1 Media announces that it has started working on a new large-scale project - a full-length fairy tale film with the working title "Vira's Cherished Wish." The production team, led by Tetiana Shulika, the author of the idea, is finalizing the script and will begin shooting very soon. The film will premiere in late 2025, on the eve of the Christmas and New Year holidays.
"We are looking for new niches where the expertise and experience of 1+1 Media will be relevant. For many years, we have been involved in film production, helping to promote the national product or participating in its creation as investors. It's time to scale up this area of content work. So, we will work on it fruitfully in 2025 and beyond. I am grateful to the team and partners with whom we want to realize even the boldest ideas. We are moving forward," commented Yaroslav Pakholchuk, CEO of 1+1 Media.
The project partner is Andriy Nogin, CEO of United Content Hub, with extensive expertise in creating and promoting cinema products.
"At 1+1 Media, we experiment extensively with content and look for new forms of its distribution. The year 2024 was full of partnerships; we supported many national cinema premieres. Now, we understand that we are ready to create projects of this scale ourselves. That's why we are actively working on our first feature film about Christmas. This bright story will give millions of Ukrainians warmth, kindness, and a little magic. So, see you in the cinemas," said Maksym Kryvytskyi, Director of Television Business, 1+1 Media.
Tetiana Shulika, Head of Fiction Projects at 1+1 Production, in a special interview for the 1+1 TV channel website, revealed the details of the upcoming project and noted that the team initially came to FILM.UA Group with the original idea of the film. Still, in the end, they failed to reach an agreement. Therefore, the project is being created independently in partnership with Andriy Nogin's team.
The idea for the film emerged in 2023. In 2024, Tetiana Shulika and her co-author Tamara Grantovska won a screenwriting grant from Netflix and actively worked on the project with a team of top industry professionals.
"We've been actively working on the feature for a year now - it's going to be a beautiful Christmas fairy tale story with the working title Vira's Cherished Wish, the idea of which came about in 2023, when we first celebrated Christmas on December 25. At that time, Ukrainian families faced chaos in holiday traditions and magicians. Everyone was building their system: who to write traditional letters to? From whom and on what date should you expect a miracle? Our film will explore the indigenous traditions of Ukrainians, help them understand the situation, and form new modern family traditions for celebrating winter holidays. Last year, we won a screenwriting grant from Netflix with this idea and are already working on the final drafts of the script. We have discovered a huge universe in this project. We see it as a prospect and plan to give Ukrainians a much-needed winter fairy tale at the end of 2025," said Tetiana Shulika, Head of Fiction Projects at 1+1 Production.
The project will start shooting soon, so follow the details on the website and 1+1 Media social media.
