Games with Writers, Presentations, Workshops and the Red Carpet: a Guide to the Activities of the Second "Bookland"

 Over four days, hundreds of events await visitors: meetings with authors, workshops, presentations and cultural events. You can get acquainted with the detailed program on the website of the festival, we talk about some of the activities.

Selfie zones and a relaxation area

The main square of VDNG will turn into a comfortable zone for leisure and discussions. Here you will be able to rest on comfortable poufs next to the fountain and on soft pillows on the steps of the central pavilion, share your impressions of books and events. Bright photo zones, flags and boats placed in the pools will create a light and cozy atmosphere.

A red carpet will be laid near the first pavilion, where anyone who wants to can feel like the main guest of the star walker - take a selfie or take a picture with their favorite author.

Games with writers

The joint initiative of board game publishers and the festival is called "Win from a writer". During all days, guests of "Bookland" will have a unique opportunity for a donation of UAH 200 to play one of the six offered "table games" together with their favorite writers. Among the famous participants are Pavlo Derevyanko, Maria Margulis, Sashko Dermansky and many others.

All collected funds will be directed to the needs of various units of the Armed Forces, the direction of collection will be determined by each writer independently.

Award of book bloggers

Pavilion #6, first hall of Universum Hall, 5:00 p.m

The opening of the festival will begin with the award ceremony of the most popular book of the year according to book bloggers. After the ceremony, there will be a discussion of literary trends with representatives of publishing houses and members of the jury. The shortlisted books will be transferred to libraries in eastern Ukraine.

Feminist discussions

Event Tent, 5 p.m

Olena Shevchenko, a human rights activist and one of TIME's 12 "Women of the Year", will hold a lecture on modern feminism and its development in wartime. In particular, during the discussion, it will be considered how the feminist movement is reflected in Ukrainian literature.

Pavilion #5 (Omni Campus), 7:00 p.m

Women write. Olya Tsibulska ("Flowers! or How to love the one in the mirror"), Oksana Shavarska ("Rysochka") and Oleksandra Fidkevich ("How to stuff a viper with lard") will talk about women's success, writing and gender equality.

Presentation of the "Unsubscribed" project

Pavilion No. 4, first hall, 7:30 p.m

Olena Gerasimyuk, a writer and paramedic of the "Hospitaliers" battalion, together with the writer and military man Yevgeny Lear, present the project "Undocumented". This is an initiative dedicated to the memory of writers whose lives were cut short by the war.

Among the entertaining activities of the first day: a master class on book painting by the author of the thriller "The White Room" Maria Margulis (Reading Mary), making pop art posters with portraits of favorite writers, decorating a house based on the fairy tale "The Three Little Pigs" for children, etc.

September 27, Friday

Lecture by Ostap Ukrainets "Writers who took part in wars. Origins of veteran literature, influence on the global literary process, modernity".

Pavilion No. 4, first hall, 4:00 p.m

Ostap Ukrainets - writer, translator and military serviceman - will present a lecture organized by the "Cultural Landing". During it, the author will analyze why conflicts and wars have always been a part of literature. The lecture will help trace the depiction of war from Homer to Cervantes and the experience of Ukrainian artists in world wars.

Business Stand Up: how to write to be read?

Pavilion No. 6, first hall of Universum Hall, 18:30 (entrance by ticket)

An event for those who want to learn how to write texts that will definitely be read! Six speakers who know how to write will share the secrets of how to make texts interesting and popular. Among the participants: the founder of the volunteer project "How are you, brother?" Anton Semenov, investment banker Serhiy Fursa, Forbes editor Kateryna Shapoval and others

 

Also, on the second day of the festival, you can have a little fun creating original bookmarks in the style of Harry Potter, immerse yourself in the world of calligraphy and try writing with a sharp pen, as in the 16th–18th centuries, at a Ukrainian cursive master class, create a picture with your favorite book character using colored sand and others.

Presentation of Rostislav Semkiv's book "How to read Ukrainian classics"

Pavilion #6, first hall of Universum Hall, 1:00 p.m

The first presentation of the literary critic's new work, during which the author will talk about the key figures of Ukrainian literature and important texts that influenced its development. Guests will learn how to orient themselves in literature, catch non-obvious connections and get pleasure from what they read.

Screening of the documentary "Life after 16:30" with a discussion of the book of the same name

Pavilion No. 4, first hall, 2:00 p.m

The numbers "16:30" have become symbolic for Oleksandr Tereshchenko, a cyborg who, on October 15, 2014, at the Donetsk airport, saved his fellow citizens after suffering serious injuries. The documentary is based on the autobiographical book of the same name. It covers the events of the hero's modern life and his struggles and recovery. After the screening, guests will have the opportunity to chat with the author and the film crew.

Presentation of Vasyl Shklyar's novel "Hare's Church"

Pavilion #6, first hall of Universum Hall, 3:00 p.m

The author will read excerpts of the new work, tell about the main idea, share his own vision of modern Ukrainian literature and answer questions from the audience.

 

Theater director David Petrosyan: how books inspire success

Pavilion #1, first hall, 3:00 p.m

Master class from the director of theater performances named after Ivan Franko and Maria Zankovetska. His works - "Buna", "Earth", "The Trial", "Othello" - have become iconic events for which it is always difficult to find tickets. The director will tell you how to find your own style and work when there is no inspiration, will share his own secrets of promoting projects and will tell what role reading and love of books play in success. Visitors will be able to ask questions, and for the best - receive a gift.

Among the master classes and curiosities of the day: painting your favorite heroes on canvas with acrylic, speed reading quests, writing an artistic text in 15 minutes and much more.

Dragon stories with Sashko Dermanskyi and Daryna Kaminskaya

Pavilion #2, 1:00 p.m

You will be able to dive into the whimsical world of dragons together with the authors Sashko Dermanskyi and Daryna Kaminskaya and at the presentation of the book "The King of Beech, or the Secret of the Emerald Book", the adventures of the beech Havrik and the dragoness Juliet await guests. These heroes try to free themselves from a despotic king by discovering the secrets of a mysterious diary that has been untouched for three hundred years.

Presentation of the book "Borschu Bible" by Svitlana Koronenko

Pavilion #1, second hall, 1:00 p.m

Svitlana Koronenko will present her popular science book "The Bible of Borscht", which tells the story of one of the most famous Ukrainian dishes. From the first mentions of borscht in cookbooks of the 17th century to hundreds of different recipes with different ingredients, including fish and even alcohol. The book contains 900 recipes reflecting the richness and evolution of Ukrainian borscht.

Fantastic Kyiv

Pavilion #6, first hall of Universum Hall, 3:00 p.m

Four modern authors will meet to discuss the topic of Kyiv in modern genre literature. Guests of the discussion: Tanya Good ("Home between three worlds", Svitlana Taratorina ("Lazarus"), Lyubov Derkach ("Inspirations. Interseason") and Olena Kuzmina ("Darkness over the city").

Registration of the record "Youngest writer of Ukraine"

Pavilion #2, 5:00 p.m

Dmytro Matusiak, the youngest author of a children's book, wrote a story about a charming pug dog and is ready to personally tell about his eared hero. During the event, representatives of the National Register of Records will present Dmytro with the appropriate certificate, and all event participants will also be able to take part in a master class on drawing their favorite pets.

Among the activities of the final day: making traveling ships, book fortune-telling, robotics workshop, art therapy and many other interesting things.
