The art of creating the future: 2,500 educators from all over Ukraine gathered at the "Teachers of the Future" festival in Lviv

This year, the event brought together more than 2,500 teachers, school principals, educational managers and change leaders from across the country. The theme of the festival was «The art of creating the future».

«Modern teaching — is the art of superpowers: start the educational process after a night of shelling, support the child in his most difficult silence, inspire even when his own resource is at zero. And it is thanks to this tireless devotion of the Teacher that our future does not just come — it is formed conscious, stable, human, despite all», — noted Zoya Lytvyn, head of «Education» and co-founder of the festival.

Co-founder of the festival and Holding of Emotions «!FEST» Yurko Nazaruk said: «Education is where there are direct conversations, where there are hugs, where there are smiles. And I want to wish you that during these two days you get so much heat to warm the whole of Ukraine, and take it to all the cities and towns of our country to last until next year».

One of the central events of the festival was the «Freedom Lesson from Svyatoslav Vakarchuk. He spoke with educators about freedom, talent and the role of the teacher in modern school: «In my opinion, the main, and perhaps the most important task of — teachers is to make the child know what he is talented at. She knew what her superpower was. I knew what she was better than others. And she knew what would be her guide in life. Not formal knowledge, but this thing — talent, the individual superpower of each child with whom it is born and which can be developed, including by school. And those teachers who will be able to do it – people to whom God has given the talent to teach others».

He ended his performance with the song «Thank you», which he dedicated to Ukrainian teachers.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy also congratulated the educators from the stage.

As part of the festival, a talk show was held with the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Oksen Lisovyi. The minister shared his own memories of his school years, details about working days and thoughts on reforms, and thanked the teachers: «There are many professions that hold the sky above us: of course, the military, as well as energy workers, doctors. But there is one imperceptible feat on a national scale: it is the work of teachers. You have made it so that this war will not lead to the fact that Ukraine will have a lost generation. The phenomenon of Ukrainian teachers will definitely be appreciated. Thank you!».

Dignity class, public interviews, hackathons and podcast

Oksen Lisovyi together with Serhiy Prytula held a hackathon for teenagers and educators of Lviv — about choosing one's own path and supporting children at school.

Among other formats of the festival — «Lesson of dignity» from the former mayor of Kherson Volodymyr Mykolaenko, who spent three years in captivity, and his public interview with the host and curator of the Global Teacher Prize Ukraine Natalia Moseychuk. «The teacher's influence on the child — is power, but not limitless. That is why it needs special responsibility. People sit in front of teachers every day, whose idea of the world is only being formed. They look at each other, adopt the behavior of adults and learn to distinguish where beliefs are and where impositions are, » Mykolaenko shared his thoughts about the role of the teacher.

The program also included a dialogue about parenthood and movement for teachers by singer Svitlana Tarabarova: «It was an indescribable pride for me to see that during air alarms, children in shelters do movement “Me and you”. It helps relieve primary stress and restore a sense of security. The movement ceases to be just entertainment, but becomes a powerful tool for returning the child to stability, to the feeling of his body. Music really cures», — she noted.

Separately, they talked about the war in education: the military, teachers and teachers who took up arms discussed how the school should work with the experience that has already become part of the life of Ukrainian families.

Also in the program were excursions to educational institutions, coffee with textbook authors, a traveling podcast «Radio Skovoroda», a performance by veterans of the Armed Forces of Ukraine «Sam na sam» and a screening of Kateryna Gornostay's documentary «Time tape».

More than 250 events and 12 directions

This year, the festival program covered 12 areas: philosophy of education, primary education, preschool, NUS, senior specialized school, digital transformation of education, pedagogical leadership and educational management, laboratory of effective learning, literature and reading, mental health and sports, inclusion, STEM and exhibition of educational innovations.

Over 250 events awaited the participants during two days: lectures, discussions, public interviews, presentations, interactive events, practical classes and meetings with Ukrainian and international experts.

More than 190 masters from teachers became a separate part of the program for teachers, where teachers from different regions of Ukraine shared their own methods and practical tools. Teachers spoke not only about challenges, but also about concrete solutions that are already working in classrooms, schools and communities.

Ukrainian and international experts and opinion leaders joined the program.

During the festival, the Osvitoria.Media Award was also presented. It was noted by public organizations, educational projects and leaders who made a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian education.
