"Youth" invites you to the cinema together with the "Club of Italian Cinema Classics"

Thanks to our defenders, the Club of Italian Film Classics is returning to the big screen. From September 14, a new cycle of showings of Italian films will begin in Kyiv's "Zhovten" cinema.

Italian cinema of the last century has become a golden fund of world culture. Last year , the "Youth" film festival showed 20 films by outstanding directors, such as Federico Fellini, Luchino Visconti, Michelangelo Antonioni and others. Some films were shown for the first time in the full director's version, and all - in high-quality restoration.

"Molodist" traditionally celebrates the centenary anniversaries of outstanding personalities associated with cinema. And we will open the new cycle of the Club with a dedication to the century of Pier Paolo Pasolini .

The main feature of the creator that beckoned and attracted attention was that he could surprise. Frivolous and innocent, cynical and emotional really coexist in his work. The conflict of these contrasting elements creates the special tension of Pasolini's films, which cannot be confused with anything else.

The director edited all his films together with Nino Baraglia, who also worked with Federico Fellini, Sergio Leone, and Bernardo Bertolucci. Eight of Pasolini's twelve full meters were shot by cinematographer Tonino Delli Colli, a chiaroscuro master known for his experiments with optics.

Pasolini's favorite actors were Franco Citti (Accattone, Oedipus Rex) and Ninetto Davoli (Birds Great and Small, Theorem, Decameron). And from the actresses Pasolini

liked to work with Silvana Mangano ("Oedipus the King", "Theorem") and Laura Betti ("Theorem", "The Canterbury Tales"), who created two contrasting images in his films - a cold bourgeois and a naive commoner.

Andriy Khalpahchi, artistic director of the Molodist International Film Festival: The classics of Italian cinema not only influenced the development of modern cinema, but also largely shaped the European culture of the 20th-21st centuries. Our Club continues to introduce cult films to Kyiv residents and guests of the capital. In these difficult times for Ukraine, our main goal is to support the film front. We are incredibly grateful to the Embassy of Italy in Ukraine and the Italian Institute of Culture in Ukraine for the opportunity to present pictures of the golden age of Italian cinema in Kyiv.

Pasolini's unforgettable masterpiece "Mama Roma" starring Anna Magnani will be presented on September 14 at 19:00.

The year 2022 is full of 100-year anniversaries of prominent Italian masters. In addition to the already mentioned Pasolini, these are such masters as Francesco Rosi, Mauro Bolognini, Carlo Lidzani, Vittorio Gassmann, Hugo Tognazzi, Damiano Damiani, Yvonne de Carlo and Serge Reggiani. Their masterpieces will also complement our program in the capital's cinema.

The screenings were organized with the support of the Embassy of Italy in Ukraine, the Italian Institute of Culture in Ukraine, media support - TV channel 1+1. Movies can be watched in the original language with Ukrainian subtitles.
