"Heart of Azovstal" and 1+1 Ukraine Launch Culinary Project "Taste of Freedom" to Advocate for the Release of Prisoners of War

Rinat Akhmetov’s project “Heart of Azovstal” together with 1+1 Media, 1+1 Ukraine channel, the morning project “Breakfast with 1+1” and the American veteran organization Dog Tag announce the advocacy project “Taste of Freedom”, which is designed to raise awareness about the issue of the release of Ukrainian prisoners of war abroad.

The first stage of the project will be the selection of a recipe for a traditional Ukrainian delicacy, which will become a symbol of support for the release of prisoners of war. Ukrainian veterans are invited to participate and offer their recipe. The winning delicacy will be made and sold in the American veteran bakery Dog Tag, and the author of the best recipe will travel to the USA to personally call on the international community to support the release of Ukrainian defenders.

“The “Heart of Azovstal” project has been actively fighting for the release of captured defenders for almost 2 years. And we pay special attention to advocacy on this issue abroad. We cooperate with American organizations and are glad that our partners from Dog Tag decided to join such an important initiative.

“Taste of Freedom” is a way to convey to foreigners what our defenders in captivity have to go through and how important their support is. Each delicacy will be accompanied by the story of one of the Ukrainian prisoners of war. In this way, we will show people in the United States that our prisoners are specific people whose lives Russia is currently trying to take away. Such stories should be heard abroad,” the Heart of Azovstal said.

“The “Taste of Freedom” project is about the desire for freedom, strength of spirit and a common goal. This is our way to convey to the world the stories of the heroism of our defenders and remind us that their liberation from captivity is a shared responsibility that requires action.

We believe that unique Ukrainian recipes created by our veterans will tell the world not only about the richness of our culture, but also about our values, the fight for freedom and indomitable spirit,” 1+1 Ukraine comments.

The best recipe for the delicacy, which the winner will present in the USA, will be determined by a trio of star judges:

- Chef and restaurateur Yevhen Klopotenko;

- Host of “Breakfast with 1+1” Valentina Khamayko;

- Researcher of gastronomic culture Olena Braychenko.

Ukrainian veterans can take part in the project. To become a participant and join an important advocacy mission, you need to fill out a questionnaire on the 1+1 website.

“Heart of Azovstal” is a project of comprehensive support for the defenders of Mariupol and their families, founded by Rinat Akhmetov. The NGO has built a unique ecosystem of support "from rehabilitation to self-realization."
