Ukrainian fantasy "Gort. The First Character" breaks records: circulation increased to 10,000 copies
On August 25, the Sens bookstore hosted the presentation of the first part of Ola Navrotskaya's literary saga "Gort. The First Character".
This marked the beginning of a new Ukrainian fantasy universe "Chronicles of Power", created in collaboration with director and producer Alan Badoev.
The demand for the novel was so high that at the start of sales, the KSD publishing house decided to increase the first print run to 10,000 copies.
"Unleash the Power!" - this is the call the authors addressed to readers, because they are sure that Ukrainian power lives in everyone. The book "Gort. The First Character" is already available in all bookstores in the country. The release date was chosen not by chance, on the eve of Independence Day. As the team emphasizes: "This date is a symbol of our identity and national independence, which is not celebrated - but strengthened."
The plot of the first part revolves around an orphan boy who discovers his roots and becomes the first Cossack character, uniting gods and mythical creatures to stop the darkness approaching from the Northeast.
This is a story that rethinks modernity in the language of fantasy: here legends about Ukrainian gods, historical figures, recognizable events and witty humor meet.
The events of the novel unfold in 12 real Places of Power - from Lysa Hora to Kamyany Selo. These spaces, myths and legends come to life, allowing us to recognize ourselves and modern Ukraine.
“Chronicles of Power” was created to tell the world who Ukrainians are and where our power comes from. This is an attempt to revive the memory of our ancestors, turn it into a modern epic and pass it on to future generations.
“The main character of the book, Hort, is associated with all Ukrainian defenders who, although they did not seek to fight, are forced to defend Ukraine and the whole world from eternal darkness. For me, he is a Ukrainian boy who wanted to live an ordinary life, but was forced to become a hero. We see it every day,” says Olga Navrotskaya.
The idea for the saga was born back in 2018, and the book was written in just three months. The main character was partly inspired by the musician Fagot, who came to the presentation and read the first chapter to the guests.
“According to the plot, the dark and light gods must unite to jointly overcome evil. And when we see how the team, friends and partners unite around us, we feel like Alan Badoev, Hort and Rakhmanka, who are walking through the Places of Power to create a meaningful project from the heart,” added Navrotskaya.
The authors immediately made it clear the scale of the idea. A continuation of the story is ahead, a comic book scheduled for release in 2026, a computer game and a feature film based on the novel.
“Follow the project — in a month we will have an event that will surprise all fans of the story about Hort. The universe will expand even more,” Alan Badoev intrigued.
According to him, a draft script for the first series of the feature film is already ready.
And next week, Olga and Alan Badoev will go on a nationwide tour with the presentation of the fantasy novel “Gort. The First Character”. Readers can expect meetings in different cities of the country, warm and frank conversations with the creators of the “Chronicles of Power” universe, and immersion in a new Ukrainian fantasy world.
