Ukrainian Media Unite to Establish an Artificial Intelligence Alliance

Leading Ukrainian media outlets and media organizations are joining forces to create an Artificial Intelligence Alliance. The participants include Suspilne Ukraine, Interfax-Ukraine, NV, 1+1 Media, Starlight Media, Ukrainska Pravda, Espreso TV, Livyi Bereh, Institute of Mass Information, and Detector Media.

The initiative was launched by Suspilne Ukraine.

The Alliance aims to develop transparent rules for the use of artificial intelligence in the Ukrainian media market, protect copyright, promote the responsible adoption of technologies, and strengthen the resilience of the information environment.

The Alliance is being established as a cross-industry platform for dialogue between media companies, OTT platforms, telecommunications providers, and technology companies. Participants will work on aligning approaches to the use of media content for training AI models, creating mechanisms for content verification, and sharing information about disinformation cases.

The Alliance’s activities will also include the development of shared technological infrastructure and professional training initiatives.

According to the Chairman of the Board of Suspilne Ukraine, the initiative emerged in response to the profound changes that artificial intelligence has already brought to the media industry, telecommunications, OTT services, and digital infrastructure.

“Maintaining resilience and continuing to develop during a time of global technological transformation is only possible through joint efforts. Previously, as a member of the European Broadcasting Union, Suspilne supported the global initiative ‘News Integrity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.’ Thousands of public broadcasters and commercial media organizations across Latin America, the United States, and Asia appealed to AI developers to protect verified and trustworthy news and to promote the use of AI in the public interest. Now, as a logical continuation of this work, Suspilne has initiated the creation of the Media Alliance on Artificial Intelligence in Ukraine. Together with colleagues from Ukraine’s leading media organizations, we will work on implementing AI policies for the industry and are ready to contribute our expertise to the development of public policy at the state level,” said Mykola Chernotytskyi.

“Global rules governing the interaction between media and artificial intelligence are only beginning to take shape. Ukraine now has a rare opportunity not merely to catch up with decisions made elsewhere, but to help shape its own approaches. That is why it is important to begin this market coordination now — while we still have the opportunity to influence the future model of interaction between media, the state, and technology platforms,” said Dmytro Sholomko, one of the initiators of the Alliance.

Representatives of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine have also joined the dialogue on future cooperation between the state and the media market in the field of AI within the framework of the Alliance.
