This time, we are publishing a selection of books from Nadiya Sperchun, Marketing Director of TET TV channel.
‘Reading allows me to relax, plunge into another world, learn something new, reflect, get inspired... I read both professional and fiction literature - from Ukrainian classics to Stephen King's horror stories. I love the feeling when you open a book, start to get acquainted with a new story, and immediately realise that it will not let go for a long time and will make you think about it constantly. These are the works I want to share with you - my favourite ones, which I am sure will find their readers and will not leave you indifferent.
‘The Land of the Amusement’. Stephen King
King is very atypical - touching, romantic and a little bit mystical. It's like going back to your childhood, when school is over and the holidays begin. It reminds me of my native Skadovsk. If you miss your holidays and really want to feel the smell of summer, then you should open Stephen King's Funland.
‘Conversations with Friends. Sally Rooney
A bright, light, frank and fascinating novel about friends - they talk a lot, reflect and act as their hearts dictate. I read it in one night, I just couldn't stop. It's like a Netflix series, only better :) When you want to be distracted, when you miss your friends and carefree time, when you just want to have a heart-to-heart conversation, you should read Sally Rooney.
‘Heart with Pepper’. Olga Dubchak
Discovered last year. We were given this book as a gift for our office library, and now it's always on our desk. It is a phraseological dictionary of Ukrainian words. It's a must-read for copywriters, PR people, anyone who works with words and wants to make people fall in love with texts.
‘The City. Valeriyan Pidmohylnyi
If you've ever dreamed of reading someone's mind, read Pidmohylny's The City and you'll realise that it's better not to know what's in someone else's head. An urban novel about a guy who decided to conquer the capital. On the one hand, there is Kyiv of the 20s, the hero's dreams, the difficulties he faces, and on the other hand, the motives for his actions and thoughts. Life is complicated and colourful, and the hero does not have to be positive.
‘Hitmakers. The Science of Popularity and the Competition for Attention. Derek Thompson
This is a handy book for finding ideas and inspiration. When it seems that everything has already been invented, you need to open Hitmakers.
‘To sell something familiar, make it unexpected. To sell something unexpected, make it familiar.’
‘Master of the Ship. Yuri Yanovsky
A friend gave me this book a year ago, but I still read it and I think I will read it again. The book is an atmosphere. I have never seen anything like it in Ukrainian literature and I don't even know what to compare it to. For those who want a little space for themselves, inspiration and Odesa.
