Emma's Torch: watch the story of a New York organization that teaches refugees the culinary art

Recently, the Ukrainian multimedia company 1+1 media launched the 1+1 Worldwide platform and app. It offers free, 24/7 access to thematic FAST channels 1+1 News and 1+1 Travel, as well as documentary projects in English and Spanish.

We invite you to watch a 15-minute documentary about Emma's Torch, a New York-based nonprofit organization that since 2019 has been helping refugees in the U.S. master the culinary art and start working in restaurants.

Every year, thousands of refugees from Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia arrive in the United States. Adaptation in a new society and job search become major challenges for them. This is especially relevant for Ukrainians who, due to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, have been forced to seek safety in other countries.

The film Emma's Torch on the 1+1 Worldwide platform tells the story of the organization's founder, Kerry Brodie, whose parents were immigrants, and shares the experiences of culinary program graduates from Ukraine, Syria, and Senegal. You will see how a space, where cultural differences are an advantage rather than a barrier, functions.

The content is available in English with the ability to include subtitles.

Watch a short documentary about an important mission for free on the 1+1 Worldwide platform via the link or through the dedicated app on ROKU devices.
