Kateryna Kylymnyk, intern at the Graphic and UI/UX Design Department

Kateryna spoke about the help of university knowledge in her work, why the tasks at Plus are creative, and shared the impact of her internship at the company on her skills.

About choosing a career path

I am a 4th year student of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, and my speciality is International Business Management, but this does not prevent me from working as a graphic designer at 1+1 media. I have always been interested in the creative process and design, so this position does not seem alien to me.

During the internship, I was able to apply many of the skills from my education. My knowledge of strategic planning and international markets helps me to better understand the needs of clients and develop designs that meet their expectations. My education has provided me with communication and time management skills, which are very useful when working with a team and completing tasks on time.

Regarding the selection of the internship programme, I believe that I was successful due to my confidence in my skills and willingness to learn and grow. In addition, my intrinsic motivation and desire to join the team were important.

Before the interview and my first day at work, I had a mixture of emotions - from excitement to delight. I was confident in my abilities, but I also felt responsible to my new team, eager to learn as much as I could and contribute to the projects.

Impressions from the internship

My job responsibilities include creating graphic content for the Kyivstar TV platform, namely developing banners and posters for films. I am passionate about the film industry, so I love the process of creating posters that captivate the viewer and convey the emotions of the film.

Working on graphic content allows me to show my creativity and develop my design skills. Each film or TV series creates a new challenge, as you need to capture its essence and impress the audience. This makes every working day interesting and exciting.

Yes, I feel the importance of my role in the team. My work contributes to the creation of attractive and informative content for the platform, which influences the audience's perception of the product.

I have a great mentor and support from the team. My manager provides valuable advice and thoroughly evaluates my work, which helps me to constantly improve. The team is always ready to help whenever I have questions. This support motivates and inspires me, helping me to achieve better results in my work.

What drives you and advice for future interns

My source of inspiration is the work of my colleagues, watching their achievements, I always try to improve my skills and create more and more impressive graphic works. However, among all the sources of inspiration, Netflix has a big place in my heart.

For example, the poster for the film Bird Box is a real masterclass in design and visual narrative. We see Sandra Bullock with a white towel covering her eyes. This detail successfully conveys the main conflict of the film - the heroine needs to keep her eyes closed because they will draw her into a threatening world where invisible danger reigns. This poster always inspires me to create graphic works that convey not only aesthetics, but also deep meaning and story.

Participation in the internship programme at 1+1 media has greatly expanded my capabilities and influenced my approach to graphic design. I see myself growing and developing in creating visual content. This work helps me develop my creativity and ability to visualise ideas.

After completing the internship, I have plans to continue developing in graphic design. I'm proud of my achievements and look forward to the opportunities for further creative growth.

As for advice for future interns: be open to new things, always try to develop your skills, look for opportunities to combine different aspects of your studies and work to create something unique, and remember that hard work is important for your own success.
