"Lots of Socks": 1+1 media joined the campaign on the occasion of World Down Syndrome Day and carried out a number of thematic initiatives
March 21 is World Down Syndrome Day.
This date reminds us of the importance of social integration and equal opportunities for everyone. Today, the “Lots of Socks” flash mob is taking place all over the world: people wear bright, colorful, and odd-numbered socks to symbolically experience what it’s like to be unique. This gesture of support is associated with a genetic feature – people with Down syndrome have 47 chromosomes instead of the usual 46.
1+1 media traditionally joined the flash mob and organized the “Sock Up” campaign at the company’s office.
This year, the design of the socks from the Down Syndrome Association was based on a drawing by 18-year-old Timofey from Kharkiv, a boy with Down syndrome. The image of a bus-house symbolizes freedom, forward movement, and support for each other, especially during war. As well as Timofey’s dream of becoming an architect, and the belief that even when there is darkness around, dreams remain bright.
“At 1+1 media, volunteering has long been a part of the corporate culture. It is important for us to develop inclusiveness and tolerance both among the team and in society as a whole. Valuable campaigns, such as “Sock Up”, not only unite the team, but also popularize the idea of helping those in need. We believe that helping should be done regularly, which is why we have been organizing initiatives to support children with Down syndrome since 2015. Today, Plyus employees sold socks based on Timofey’s drawing. For us, as for him, the most important thing is not to lose hope and move forward,” commented Yana Lyakhovich, Head of Corporate Communications at 1+1 media.
On March 21, a morning fair was held at the 1+1 media office: the company’s top managers sold colorful socks to colleagues for three hours. During the “Sock Up” charity campaign, almost 120 thousand hryvnias. All funds will be sent to support the Down Syndrome Charity.
Also, on March 21, 1+1 media corporate speakers, hosts of “Closer to the Stars” on TET Natali Solonik and Nikita Dobrynin, and host of “Breakfast with 1+1” Nelya Shovkoplyas, visited the inclusive social cafe and bakery Sunshine.
In addition, on the eve of World Down Syndrome Day, Natali Solonik and choreographer Oleksandr Prokhorov held a dance master class for students of the inclusive creative studio Sunway.
