The winners of the student competition of the 53rd Kyiv International Film Festival ‘Molodist’ have been announced
The best student films of the International Competition were from Poland and Israel. They received the traditional Scythian Stag and a cash award from Kyivstar TV in the amount of $2,000
On 2 November, the Kyiv Cinema House hosted the award ceremony of the 53rd Kyiv International Film Festival Molodist, where Kyivstar TV became one of the financial partners.
This year, the best student films in the International Competition were Like a Butterfly by Iris Gershon Nagar (Israel, 2023) and Basia: Three Short Stories by Mateusz Petrak (Poland, 2023).
The two films are somewhat related in meaning, as they tell the story of two elderly people and their different views on the aging process. In Like a Butterfly, 81-year-old Alfred, a colourful street philosopher who is not ready to accept ageing, becomes a hippie who is somewhat lost in time, like a butterfly. The film Basia: Three Short Stories’ tells the story of an elderly woman who accepts her age and the fluidity of life, but this does not prevent her from remaining full of energy.
‘It is an honour for us to support the student competition, because it is about fresh eyes, new faces and an unbridled thirst to create new films. These are the values we share at Kyivstar TV,’ said Maryna Kaplun, Head of Content at Kyivstar TV, during the presentation of the cash certificate.
By the way, Kyivstar TV is not the first to support Ukrainian film festivals, in particular, in 2024, the film and television platform became a partner of KyivKyivFest, Mykolaichuk OPEN, Odesa International Film Festival, Debut Film Day and Children Film Festival.
