PLUSPLUS TV channel and Osvitoria held an open lesson on the resilience of Ukrainians
On 1 September 2023, PLUSPLUS TV channel, a part of 1+1 media group, together with its partners, Osvitoria Public Union, held an open lesson in a Kyiv school on the topic "We are Ukrainians: honour and glory to the unbreakable".
The content of the lesson, held on the first day of school, included episodes of the new PLUSPLUS animation project Ukraine. Unconquered Cities", which also had its TV premiere on 1 September. The animated series tells the story of Ukrainian cities that suffered during the Russian war in Ukraine. In particular, the fascinating 5-minute episodes feature historical monuments in the context of modern reality, creating a parallel between the heroic past and the present. In this way, PLUSPLUS continues to communicate with children about the Great War, finding the necessary words and metaphors for this.
Ivanna Naida, General Producer of PLUSPLUS TV channel, comments:
"PLUSPLUS TV channel fulfils an important social mission by creating the necessary content on relevant topics for children. Our task is to explain in a simple and clear way all the processes that are taking place in the context of a major war, so as not to traumatise them, but rather to inspire and interest them. That is why on 1 September, together with Osvitoria, we held an open lesson for children, telling them about the heroic Ukrainian cities and the heroic deeds of our fellow citizens. We hope that this will encourage children to study our history and gain a deeper understanding of Ukrainian culture."
The methodological development of the lesson was provided by Osvitoria. The lesson was developed by Oksana Khomych, a primary school teacher at Novopecherska School and an expert on the "I Learn - I Don't Wait" app.
In addition, the lesson materials, which include a presentation, methodological tips, and episodes of the animated series "Ukraine. Unconquered Cities", are available for teachers on a special web platform for further use both during distance learning and in the classroom. The materials can be found here.
"The goal of the "I Learn - I Don't Wait" project is to provide all Ukrainian students in grades 1-4 with the opportunity to study Ukrainian curricula anywhere in the world and under any conditions. Therefore, we do not stop and continue to develop the project: very soon we will publish a desktop version of the product. In addition, we plan to develop a printed manual with interactive lessons. We hope that both this lesson and the future manual will help teachers make the educational process even more exciting for children," comments Oleksandr Papish, project manager of "I Learn - I Don't Wait" at Osvitoria.
"It is important for Ukrainian children to know and remember their history and language, wherever they are now and however their lives turn out in the future," adds Olena Onyshchenko, Can't Wait to Learn programme leader at War Child. "The Learning Not Waiting app helps younger students continue their studies according to the Ukrainian school curriculum, and helps teachers diversify their teaching tools and make lessons more interesting and interactive."
