1+1 media, together with Smart Angel, announces a new educational project - International online conference on media literacy

1+1 media, together with Smart Angel, announces a new educational project - the International Online Conference on Media Literacy, which will take place on 6 June at 18:00 (17:00 CET). The event will be packed with knowledge on countering fakes and disinformation, protecting personal data, and online safety tips. The project is being implemented jointly with the Smart Angel charity and with the financial support of the European Union. 

"Today, it is extremely important for everyone, regardless of their country of residence, to have at least basic media literacy skills, because we all exist in conditions of total uncertainty, information wars, and numerous external and internal threats. That is why the conference we are organising will be useful for citizens around the world who want to improve their security in the information field. Thanks to the strong experience of media literacy experts, we are confident that such events can help counter the information threat and protect against hostile influence operations," commented Olga Zakharova, Strategic Marketing Director at 1+1 media.

In the format of pre-recorded speeches, participants will be able to watch the lecturers' presentations for free and learn more about countering fakes, the impact of propaganda on society, and online safety in a full-scale war. The topics covered include digital literacy in a full-scale war, the psychological impact of propaganda, media literacy for older people, and much more, no less interesting and useful material. The presentations will be available in Ukrainian, English, Italian, German, and French. 

The project's speakers are Ukrainian and international experts in media literacy, political technology, history, etc. Among them, in particular: 

  • Akim Galimov, producer at 1+1 media, founder of the Real History project; 
  • Anton Shekhovtsov, professor at the University of Vienna, expert at the Centre for Democratic Integrity and researcher at the Research Centre for the History of Transformation, researcher on Russian influence and right-wing radical movements; 
  • Valeria Ionan, Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine for European Integration;
  • Victoria Merlych, Head of Project Management at the Centre for Strategic Communications;
  • Gabriele Cosentino, Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication at the American University in Cairo;
  • Ihor Solovey, Head of the Centre for Strategic Communications;
  • Kari Kivinen, Head of Education at Faktabaari; 
  • Lidiya Smola, Doctor of Political Science, Professor, researcher of information warfare;
  • Olga Pasicelska, researcher at the Centre for Media Studies and Journalism, University of Groningen, the Netherlands, 
  • Taras Shevchenko, Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.


The educational project will provide participants with practical media and information literacy skills that should become part of their lives in a full-scale war, as well as explain how to navigate the information around them and recognise disinformation and propaganda.
