The program for Ukraine’s first Day of Debut Cinema has been announced
On September 28, Kyiv will host the first-ever Day of Debut Cinema in Ukraine — a large-scale event aimed at supporting emerging Ukrainian filmmakers. During the day, short films that are debut or graduation works of up-and-coming directors will be screened on the big screen at a central Kyiv cinema.
The event is organized by the Ukrainian Film School, a leading Ukrainian film school that has been nurturing a new generation of filmmakers for over seven years. The official partner of the event is Kyivstar TV.
The films for the screenings were chosen by the selection committee. This year’s committee includes director Taras Dron, producer of FILM.UA Group Iryna Kostiuk, general producer of Mykolaichuk OPEN Film Festival Oleksii Hladushevskyi, program consultant of the Odesa International Film Festival and art director of the Ukrainian Film Academy Alik Shpyliuk, founder and director of the Ukrainian Film School Alyona Tymoshenko, and Kyivstar TV CEO Pavlo Rybak.
According to the selection committee, the following debut and graduation films will be screened on the big screen in Kyiv for the Day of Debut Cinema:
- "It's Hard to Live, It's a Pity to Die" (director Valeriia Domasova)
- "Selfish Woman" (director Veronika Marchenko)
- "Winter Bloom" (director Ivan Krupenikov)
- "Rooms We Share" (director Nadiia Khatymlianska)
- "Kira" (director Anastasiia Obodovska)
- "Mother" (director Mariia Felenko)
- "City from the Window" (director Nikita Makusev)
- "The Last Day" (director Anastasiia Mykhalchuk)
- "Passport" (director Zhora Papoian)

"Our goal is to draw attention to the creativity of emerging filmmakers, as they are the new generation of Ukrainian cinema. We also want to give them the opportunity to showcase their debut works on the big screen," says Alyona Tymoshenko, founder and director of the Ukrainian Film School. "Additionally, during the Day of Debut Cinema, young filmmakers will have the chance to interact with experienced industry professionals and receive advice on filmmaking, topic selection, and pitching their projects."
The Day of Debut Cinema will take place on September 28 at the Oscar Cinema (Gulliver Mall, Sportyvna Square 1a) from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Entry is free, with prior registration required on the website.
