Volodymyr Tymofiychuk's own journalistic investigation, which he conducted in May 2016, was devoted to the case of a Cherkasy schoolboy who was unfairly accused of murdering a peer. In the first plot, the facts and frank confessions of the investigator about the fabrication of the case on the orders of the prosecutors were made public. Subsequently, the published material became the basis for the release of the schoolboy from the pre-trial detention center and further consideration of the case regarding illegal actions of law enforcement officers.

The criteria for determining the winning work in the "Best Journalistic Investigation" nomination were: significance of the raised issue/problem, change in people's attitude to the topic/effectiveness, depth of the evidence base/argument, discovery of new facts, discovery of reasons, motives, interest.
