"We must speak loudly about the war in Ukraine - everywhere. Every day we lose our precious people. Every day, the Russian occupiers destroy our houses, raze villages to the ground, and try to paralyze the life of our cities. Ukrainian people have been forced to survive under occupation for more than six months. But war is not only about shelling. These are stories of people who lose but fight, shed blood but resist. We do not want pity, but we need help and understanding. I want the world to see and hear true stories about incredible courage, great love, understand the need to de-occupy Ukraine and fight together with us. Because you can't be indifferent when Russia is trying to destroy the world. They just started with us and don't plan to be satisfied with that," Nataliya Nagorna commented.

This project was created in collaboration with the 1+1 media group, which provided a significant amount of archival materials included in the film series.

"Now it is very important to join forces and document all the terrible crimes committed by the Russian Federation on our land. That's why we couldn't help but respond to Yevhen Afineevskii's offer to join the project and help create work that is important for all of Ukraine and the world. We believe that the project will find a response from millions of viewers around the world, we will do everything possible for this ," commented 1+1 media.

The film "Freedom in Fire: Ukraine's Struggle for Freedom" is based on the personal stories of Ukrainians - soldiers, mothers, children, doctors, journalists and volunteers, whose lives have changed radically since the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war. This documentary tells about the indomitable struggle of Ukrainians for their independence and the freedom of the entire civilized world, and the chronicles presented in the film not only reveal the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine (from February 24, 2022), but also evoke tragic memories of 8 years ago. In particular, fragments from the Revolution of Dignity are given, during which Ukrainians became the only nation that, wrapped in the EU flag, died for its civil rights.

"I wanted to understand how Putin's aggression went unnoticed by the world for so long... Where does the Ukrainian people get this strength and what will happen next with this unconquered nation? Together with the team, we tried to reveal all these questions and demonstrate the horrors of war through the eyes of eyewitnesses, " said director Yevhenii Afineevskyi.

The project was implemented with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and in collaboration with 1+1 media. This work is a continuation of the film "Winter on fire: Ukraine's struggle for freedom", which premiered on October 9, 2015 on the Netflix platform. In addition, in 2016, the film was nominated for the "Oscar" award in the "Best Documentary Feature Film" category.

The documentary project "Freedom in Fire: Ukraine's Struggle for Freedom" will debut at the Venice Film Festival out of competition.
