On Tuesday, 29 August, 1+1 media group together with WAW: Alternative Media presented a new video developed as part of the socially important initiative "Add Ukrainian".

In the video, the authors told about the total repression of Ukrainian cultural figures, the stories of ordinary people who openly demonstrated their pro-Ukrainian position and what they gave their lives for.

For example, in April 2014, student Yuriy Popravka and his friends were captured by militants in Sloviansk, and later Yuriy's body was found in a river in Donetsk region with signs of violent death. According to witnesses who were in captivity with Yuriy Popravka and who managed to escape, he was killed for speaking Ukrainian and for his unwillingness to switch to Russian.

In July 2014, in Donetsk, Russian militants shot dead a 17-year-old teenager, a young footballer Stepan Chubenko, after severe torture, for wearing a yellow and blue ribbon and standing for a united and indivisible Ukraine. In November 2019, in the city of Bakhmut, Donetsk region, volunteer and activist Artem Myroshnychenko was attacked by two teenagers, and died of his injuries in hospital. The attackers were unhappy that Artem spoke Ukrainian.

"Language is the first thing they (ed. - Russians) started destroying in Ukraine long before the large-scale war. At the same time, Russian propaganda was using all its mouthpieces to convince us that Russian speakers were being "infringed upon" in Ukraine, but in reality, the opposite was true. The manipulative thesis of Russian propagandists was so driven into the minds of the population that it only generated unjustified aggression towards the Ukrainian side," the video says.

The video is available for viewing and sharing on YouTube channels: 1+1 media, 1+1, TSN. It is also available on Instagram and Facebook - 1+1 media, WAW and in the Telegram community "Plus Ukrainian" at this link: https://t.me/ideaspeople.

The key goal of these videos is to introduce the concept of "information hygiene" in the consumption of content among Ukrainians and to demonstrate how everyone's life can change if they start speaking Ukrainian or improve their language skills in every possible way. The videos are created by the WAW: Alternative Media team.
