TSN War Correspondent Andriy Tsapliyenko Featured on CBS News' iconic TV show 60 Minutes
TSN and 1+1 Marathon war correspondent Andriy Tsapliyenko, in an interview with journalists from the CBS News program 60 Minutes, discussed the work of Ukrainian journalists amid the war, Ukrainians' resilience, and the reason Ukraine will endure.
In particular, Tsapliyenko emphasized that journalists cannot have two points of view in Russia's bloody war.
«I am not unique. I think every Ukrainian journalist has chosen their side in this war. We know that Russians consider us informational soldiers in this war. And we know that they would kill us if we were captured. That’s why we choose one side. Before this war, it was necessary to show two perspectives so that viewers could decide what was right and what was wrong. But this war is different. We still face issues with corruption; that's true. We still have problems with ineffective governance; that's also true. But we are on the right side of history. That’s all. We defend values», Tsapliyenko explained.
Andriy Tsapliyenko's approach to his work involves being at the epicenter of events and showing his viewers what is happening. He emphasizes that he strives to be honest with his audience, as this is also part of the resistance against Russian aggression.
«Freedom of speech is fundamental. It’s a decisive thing that will help us win this war. A system of free media helps us prevail in this war, and it will help us win. We are not fighting for the government. We are not fighting for individuals, as the Russians do. They fight for Putin. But we are fighting for each other, our identity, our country, and our values because we want our country to be free», concludes Andriy Tsapliyenko.
The filming occurred in the TSN studio, at memorable locations in Kyiv and frontline Kharkiv, Andriy Tsapliyenko's hometown. It also included scenes from the border with Russia in the Sumy region, where the 80th Air Assault Brigade and drone operators from the 92nd Assault Brigade are engaged in operations in the Kursk area. The CBS segment includes footage from Tsapliyenko’s frontline dispatches. You can view the material at the provided link.
