1+1 media and EMA summarized the results of cooperation in 2020

A year ago, the 1+1 media group signed a memorandum with the Ukrainian Interbank Association of Payment Systems EMA, within the framework of which the parties agreed to exchange technical information and experience in order to effectively combat Internet fraud. During this time, 1+1 media specialists received more than 200 requests to block phishing and fraudulent resources, information about which the EMA Association received from banks and defrauded citizens, who, in turn, provided information through the appropriate contact form on the EMA website. As of January 2021, 204 fraudulent sites have been blocked and work is underway to stop the operation of another 8.

All communication with potentially dangerous sites for citizens takes place officially, through correspondence with the hosters or owners of the sites. Usually, the answer comes very quickly and within two or three days from the moment of the application, the fraudulent resource stops working on the hosting. In case of non-cooperation or ignoring letters, the next appeal is already sent directly to the Google search engine, after which the site is removed from there. According to this principle, 1+1 media specialists also work with complaints about the illegal use of content from illegal copying and distribution on the Internet. Thus, in 2020, Google removed more than 110,000 links to pirated content and blocked more than 270,000 videos that violate the copyright of their owners.

"With the rapid development of the market of payment services in Ukraine, fraudulent schemes are evolving no less rapidly, unfortunately. So, as with content protection from piracy, things are changing more slowly than everyone would like. The temptation to profit from gullible citizens and the lack of an adequate level of Internet literacy in society leads to the regular appearance of new cases and appeals. At the same time, it is pleasing that more and more often we manage to achieve our goal: by joint efforts to combat and prevent fraud," says Vyacheslav Mienko, deputy general director for legal issues of 1+1 media.

"In today's conditions, blocking fraudulent sites is an effective way to fight fraud on the Internet only if the level of financial literacy and payment hygiene of the population is simultaneously increased. Only by blocking fraudulent sites, without spreading explanatory information among the population, it is impossible to fundamentally solve the problem, because fraudulent sites multiply like a virus. Therefore, we express our gratitude to our partner 1+1 media for social responsibility and contribution to the fight against payment fraud in Ukraine and call on the mass media to inform citizens about the elementary signs of phishing sites and ways to check sites for fraud. Let's defeat fraudulent sites together!" — Oleksandr Karpov, director of the EMA Association, commented on summarizing the results of the cooperation between 1+1 media and EMA in 2020.
